  • BOOGALOO ASSASSINS 10 Year Anniversary Party Friday June 23

The BOOGALOO ASSASSINS celebrate their 10 years of making the real-deal-holyfield classic Latin Boogaloo, Latin Soul, Salsa and Latin funk style of the 1960’s and 1970’s – Friday at the Echo June 23. You might have heard their Mambo version of the Dawn Penn classic “No No No” that’s become as Ubiquitous in certain circles as the original itself. This 12 piece will bring the non-stop energy and not let up. We won’t be surprised if a proper stage dive find it’s way onto the nights agenda.

  • ROOT DOWN 15 year pics

Despite the chill and drizzle, the Root Down celebrated its 15 years in incredible fashion. An event that captured what Root Down has brought to the stage over the years, showcasing the broad range of styles and cultures its nurtured. Iconic soul singer Syl Johnson rocked with the Breakestra, The Beatnuts mashed it up with Connie Price and the Keystones, Aloe Blacc showed why he has shined these past few years, Cut Chemist proved once again that he is one of the most innovative djs on the planet and the second area was jumping back yard party style with The Lions, Buyepongo and Dj Jeremy Sole. Not to be overshadowed was Dj Rhettmatic and Root Down Sound System djs, Sloe Poke, Ervin Arana, Jedi and Expo laying the foundation grooves throughout the night. Question of the evening was “When is the next one?” Looks like something is definitely brewin’.

  • ROOT DOWN returns MARCH 31st- THE ADRIAN YOUNGE SOUND ORCHESTRA LIVE

The events biz has changed quite a bit in the past few years. Party goers have been tighter on their budgets and choosier on what they want to experience. Even the Root Down, going on 13 years and one of the originals of the under ground soul, funk and hip-hop has had to adjust to the changing climate.

What does get people coming is quality and consistency which is the main reason why The ROOT DOWN has survived for so long. Now RD has shifted from a weekly to a periodic special event and on MARCH 31st it returns featuring THE ADRIAN YOUNGE SOUND ORCHESTRA aka BLACK DYNAMITE live on stage.

    About:
Multi-instrumentalist Adrian Younge makes his debut on Wax Poetics Records with his original score to the Michael Jai White comedy, Black Dynamite. Inspired by the great blaxploitation soundtracks of the 1970s, Younge commands the Rhodes electric piano, Hammond organ, Hohner Clavinet, harpsichord, synthesizer, vibraphone, guitar, bass, flute, sax, cello, and drums, crafting with a singular vision. Whether it’s the witty vocal of “Jimmy’s Apartment” or the lowdown bass line of “Rafelli Chase,” the entire album is deeply authentic.

There will be two rooms in action with resident Djs SLOE POKE, MUSIC MAN MILES, ERVIN ARANA, JEDI & EXPO putting it down RD style.
